  • In order to benefit most from the psychotherapy provided, it is recommended that clients possess relatively developmentally appropriate verbal and cognitive skills. Typically, most patients are congruent with the “Level 1” ASD diagnostic status or “high functioning” classification.

    While the typical age range for treatment is 7-18+, there is individual variation, and Dr. Willar has and does work with individuals outside of the age range specified, such as young adults.

  • Dr. Willar provides psychotherapy in-person and via telehealth to Michigan patients. For California patients, she provides telehealth services.

  • To get started, Dr. Willar will conduct a free 10 minute phone consultation to discuss your child’s current challenges and assess whether an intake is appropriate. Prior to the intake, you will receive an email with instructions on how to make a personalized login to review treatment consent forms and other necessary documentation. 

    During the intake, Dr. Willar will meet with the parent(s) and child for approximately 2 hours to learn more details about your child’s history and current struggles. Afterward, Dr. Willar will discuss the potential for therapy with her and any other related recommendations.

    If therapy with Dr. Willar is indicated, appropriately scheduled therapy will begin shortly thereafter and the discussion of treatment goals will occur in the first therapy session.

  • Yes, parents are typically included within the treatment sessions pending the individualized therapeutic goals. At a minimum, parents usually present for check-in and check-out of the session in order to share needed information and learn about the content of the session.

  • Please contact Dr. Willar regarding current rates. Dr. Willar accepts private pay and HSA/FSA accounts, thus she is considered an out-of-network provider and does not participate with insurance.

    Certain health insurance policies may provide coverage for out-of-network mental health services. On request, Dr. Willar will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your health insurance provider. If you plan to use your insurance, it is recommended that you contact your insurance carrier prior to your first session and ask about your benefits for psychotherapy. Depending on your plan, insurance companies may reimburse 20-80% of the session fee.
